The Jillian Michaels App: Week 2

Read about week 2 of my journey using the Jillian Michaels App! It was definitely challenging but very effective- I've lost 2.5 lbs!

It’s Tuesday so it’s time for another update! If you’ve missed the previous posts on why I’m on this fitness journey, click here, and how week one went, click here.

So this week was a weird one. I’ve never been so sick. I’m so congested that I can’t smell or taste anything and my face hurts. Not fun. In the past I’ve turned to comfort food when I’m not feeling well, which of course is so counterproductive. I felt so nauseous and icky my whole pregnancy, so I comforted myself with pizza, donuts, potatoes, etc. I know it makes no sense to eat junk food when you feel sick, but I’m an emotional eater. This time though I consciously made the decision to nourish my body with healthy food rather than giving in to emotional food cravings. And I did really well!

I ate according to the vegan meal plan in the Jillian Michaels App for the most part. My appetite was really weird so sometimes I ate different things but I stuck to healthy options.

I lost another 2.5 lbs for a total of 6.5! I was worried I was undoing my progress by not exercising but clearly sticking to healthy food makes a big difference. 

Day 8:
What I ate-
– Peanut Butter and Jelly Smoothie
– coffee with 1 T of cream
– leftover veggies and lemon-tahini dressing from yesterday’s wraps
– Mediterranean Stuffed Sweet Potatoes with Tzatziki
– two pieces of avocado toast
– Cheesy Kale, Leek, and Mushroom Casserole
– tea with coconut milk and honey
What I did-
-rest
How I felt-
– so annoyed! I’ve got a nasty cold and that coupled with poor sleep has me feeling like a total zombie. Seriously hoping I get over this cold soon so I can work out again.

Day 9:
What I ate-
– tea with honey
– 2 boiled eggs
– Cheesy Kale, Leek, and Mushroom Casserole
– almond milk latte
– 2 pieces of avocado toast
– banana with natural PB
– Buckwheat Soba Noodle Stir Fry with Honey-Sesame Tempeh
What I did-
-rest
How I felt-
– feeling just awful. When my baby woke me at 2 to nurse it took me an hour to get back to sleep. Then when she woke me at 5 to nurse I couldn’t fall back asleep at all. Plus my cold symptoms have gotten worse. My appetite is all weird and I’m exhausted. It’s very frustrating because I was doing so well! I’m still sticking to the meal plan for the most part, I just had some eggs in the morning because I can’t stomach anything sweet right now like the overnight oats or the peanut butter and jelly smoothie from the plan.
– honestly I felt like ordering pizza to “make myself feel better”. But I thought about it and decided to be strong and let this be an exercise in overcoming emotional eating. Would I actually feel better after eating takeout pizza? Of course not! So I made the stir fry recipe from the app meal plan 🙂 it was delicious, nourishing, and satisfying!

Day 10:
What I ate-
– 2 boiled eggs
– whole wheat pita, banana, natural PB
– Buckwheat Soba Noodle Stir Fry with Honey-Sesame Tempeh
– Cheesy Kale, Leek, and Mushroom Casserole
– protein shake (chocolate protein powder, frozen strawberries, frozen cauliflower, chia seeds, flax seeds, turmeric powder, coconut milk)
What I did-
-rest
How I felt-
– whyyyy. Why did I have to catch such a nasty cold?! If anything I feel worse today. Despite not working out and snacking a bit more the past few days, I’ve lost another 2.5 lbs. Not too shabby! I was worried I may be undoing my progress by resting but it’s comforting to know I’m still on track.

Day 11:
What I ate-
– chocolate strawberry protein shake
– 1 hard boiled egg
– Buckwheat Soba Noodle Stir Fry with Honey-Sesame Tempeh
– coffee with coconut milk
– Rockin Rocket Salad
What I did-
– rest
How I felt-
– sick. My cough is worse and I’m not kidding I literally cannot smell or taste anything. The balsamic vinaigrette I made for the salad smelled like water to me. It’s kind of weirding me out! I’m drinking tons of herbal tea to help relieve congestion and soothe my cough. Seriously hoping this cold doesn’t last much longer 🙁 I’m sick of feeling sick!

Day 12:
What I ate-
– chocolate mocha protein smoothie
– Rockin Rocket Salad wrapped in a whole wheat pita
– Veggie Bolognese with Zucchini Noodles
What I did-
– rest. Again.
How I felt-
– still horribly sick. Boo. Still can’t smell or taste anything.

Day 13:
What I ate-
– chocolate strawberry protein smoothie
– Kale Salad with Thai Ginger-Peanut Dressing
– homemade plain kombucha
– one piece of avocado toast
– Cauliflower-Cashew Broccoli Alfredo
– turmeric milk (“golden milk”)
What I did-
– rest
How I felt-
– sorry this has kind of turned into a sickness journal instead of a fitness journal. Ick. So needless to say I felt awful today.

Day 14:
What I ate-
– 2 pieces organic whole wheat toast with natural PB and raw honey
– homemade plain kombucha
– Kale Salad with Thai Ginger-Peanut Dressing
– Cauliflower-Cashew Broccoli Alfredo
– one piece of avocado toast
What I did-
– rest
How I felt-
– not great but I saw my doctor today. I have a pretty nasty cold but I’m glad it isn’t an infection. I’m hydrating and doing lots of herbal steams to get the congestion moving. Hopefully I can get this cold cleared out so I can get back to my workouts and stop boring you with my illness 😉
