DIY: Nourishing Olive Oil & Lavender Hair Mask

This hair mask will add shine and leave your hair feeling silky! Only 3 ingredients. | The Refreshanista

As someone with dry, thick, curly hair, I am super into hair masks! I constantly battle with frizz and split ends and nourishing my hair once in a while with moisturizing oils makes a big difference. A good hair mask can make dry, damaged hair silky and smooth.

I really like to make my own hair masks, not only are they more natural but they also moisturize better and make my hair look and feel healthier. Olive and coconut are great oils for repairing hair. They are easily absorbed by the hair so the hair becomes stronger and shinier.

This hair mask includes lavender essential oil. First of all, the scent is very soothing. 15 minutes with lavender oil in your hair will make you feel calm and relaxed- like a mini at-home spa day! And if you are trying to grow your locks, you’ll be happy to know that lavender oil can stimulate hair growth!

I made this recipe with my own hair texture in mind, which is thick and dry/damaged. If you have thinner hair you may find that this mask is too oily to apply throughout your hair. In that case, I would recommend only applying it to the ends of your hair where it’s the driest.

Author Melanie Maxwell

  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 10 drops of lavender essential oil

  1. Whisk together all ingredients in a bowl set in hot water, this helps melt the coconut oil.
  2. Apply throughout your hair starting at the ends.
  3. Leave on for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Shampoo twice. If you have dry hair you can use conditioner afterward.

Do you use hair masks regularly? Let me know what recipes you like! I’d love to try more.
